Dr.Kwak’s recent trip to Spain

Dr. Kwak recently presented his research on osteochondral lesions of the ankle to the World Congress of the International Cartilage Repair Society in Sitges, Spain, in September 2010. The World Congress represents 1,100 international leaders from 65 countries, where they meet in Spain to share the state of the art in cartilage restoration and orthopaedic research. Dr. Kwak’s research presented long term outcomes in the uses of Autologous Condrocyte Implantation (ACI) (http://www.carticel.com/patients/treatment.aspx) for osteochondral lesions of the talus (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article /1237723-overview). Along with his co-author, Dr. Richard D. Ferkel, they demonstrated that ACI provides durable and significant pain relief and functional improvement in patients who have failed previous treatment for osteochondral lesions of the ankle.
